Single Bingle.

clarke-bingle1

PLUMBERS were reportedly called to a Sydney apartment - once shared by Lara Bingle and Michael Clarke to search for an “item of significant value” lost down a toilet.

And according to The Sun-Herald newspaper that item was the $200,000 diamond engagement ring belonging to bikini model Lara Bingle, who on Friday - in the full blaze of the Australian media spotlight - broke up with fiance and Aussie cricket vice-captain, Michael Clarke.

It was all we saw across the media this week and frankly am a bit tired of hearing about it.

In case you have been living under a rock, here is a quick timeline for you:

  • Photo of Lara released (most probably by Lara’s publicity team and management after her ailing career was on a downward spiral)
  • Michael breaks camp and abandons squad to meet with Lara back in Australia (how sweet, what a nice guy)
  • Michael fed up with everything, calls off the wedding and relationship. (sigh)
  • Last night… Twin pipes plumbing service called for an expensive plumbing rescue of a “valuable item” lost down the toilet.
  • Lara not too happy, publicity stunt backfires. (life is now sad, poor single-Bingle)

What a joke! I only wish all the best to Michael Clarke as he moves on with his life…

Ksubi placed into voluntary administration

ksubi

THE Australian company behind local denim fashion label ksubi has been placed into voluntary administration to help ensure its future.

Ksubi’s eccentric designers Dan Single and George Gorrow handed the fashion house over to administrators yesterday in a last-ditch attempt to save the company.

Its Australian stores, including premier Sydney sites at Bondi and Paddington, and its high-profile outlet in New York’s SoHo district, remain open for trade while Grant Thornton’s forensic accountants determine viability.

“It is business as usual for ksubi,” administrator Paul Billingham said.

“Our job is to try and preserve the inherent value of the business. We will work closely with directors and key stakeholders to do this. For the time, all ksubi’s stores remain open.”

Ksubi, formerly known as tsubi, is the brainchild of Single and Gorrow, two knock-about surfers who were so incensed by the range of jeans on the market at the turn of the century, they started making their own.

The brand’s spectacular rise was compounded by headlines the duo created - the release of 200 live rats on a catwalk in 2001 and late-night booty bar parties. At their height, the duo were estimated to have a combined worth of $24 million.

Single and Gorrow said they had been “struggling to achieve the margin necessary to fund the growth and development of the brand”.

Voluntary administration was the “only way to ensure the future of ksubi”, they said in a statement.

“We are and will remain fully committed to the ksubi brand and in assisting the administrator to achieve the best possible outcome,” they said today.

The pair said there had been “significant attempts” in recent times to address ksubi’s financial difficulties.

These had included “licensing the manufacturing and distribution of the brand to a culturally aligned, Australian-based company with overseas production experience and networks”.

“However, despite best efforts it has not been possible to formalise a new restructure leading to the appointment of an administrator,” the pair said.

“Ksubi is grateful for the loyalty shown by its suppliers through this difficult period.”

Ksubi have been chasing a buyer for the label for over 12 months now.

RIP KSUBI…
